John Robert "Bob" Williams' Obituary
John Robert (Bob) Williams, a resident of Miami, passed away on Friday, October 04, 2013 at Windridge Care and Rehab. He was 80. Mr. Williams was born at his home in Alton, Kansas on October 6, 1932 to Herald and Adeline (Stephenson) Williams. He graduated from Alton High School and attended college at Friends Bible College at Haviland, KS where he met Edith Zinn. They married August 16, 1952.
Bob pastored in Friends churches of Kansas, Oklahoma and Ohio. He also pastored in the Christian Church in Indiana and Kansas. Mr. Williams retired after fifty-one years of ministry. In retirement he worked part time as a Wal-Mart door greeter in Miami. Bob loved music, he was an accomplished pianist, organist and he sang tenor. He loved people and spent his retirement pursuing his passion for genealogy research on his family.
Bob is preceded in passing by his parents Herald and Adeline Williams, a step mother Ethel Williams, five brothers; Neil, Edward, Clifford, Charles and Everett, along with a sister Laura Nonamaker, a grandson Mitchell Schnure, and a great grandson Marcus Moreno.
Survivors include his wife Edith of sixty-one years , one son and his wife John and Melina Williams of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Four daughters and their husbands Marcia and Larry Kruse of Wyandotte, Miriam and Jim George of Miami, Melva Ann and Bill Schnure of Loveland, Ohio and Merleen and Jim Van Dyke of Greenfield, Ohio. Also surviving are two brothers; Duane Williams of Wichita, Kansas and Bill Williams of Alton, Kansas, eighteen grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Funeral Services for Mr. Williams will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Miami with Minister Leon Weece officiating.
Interment will be at a later date at the Sumner Cemetery in Alton, Kansas. Services are under the direction of the Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Building Fund at the First Christian Church in Miami.
