George Nixon Webb's Obituary
George Nixon Webb, 93, a longtime resident of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Miami. Mr. Webb was born March 25, 1932, in Miami, Oklahoma, to George S. and Pearl M. (Niksch) Webb. Mr. Webb graduated from Miami High School Class of 1950 and earned an Associate’s Degree from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in 1952. He attended the University of Oklahoma, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Before graduating, he married his High School sweetheart and love of his life, Frances Hatfield, in Miami, Oklahoma, on December 27, 1954. After completing his education at OU, he served his country in the United States Army, including a year and a half in Schweinfurt, Germany.
George and Frances returned to Miami, where they would raise their family and spend many wonderful years together. Mr. Webb worked for Eagle Picher as a Chemical Engineer for 35 years at the Miami Research Lab and Boron Plant in Quapaw, Oklahoma, retiring in 1995 as the Boron Plant Superintendent. His interests included photography, history, bird watching, and travel. When he was not working, he and Frances loved to travel to as many National Parks and Historical Sites as possible and filled up two National Parks Passport Books. He was a member of the Ottawa County Historical Society, where he served as president for over ten years, and a member of the Grand Lake Audubon Society, where he served as president for a number of years. He was also a member of the Ottawa County Camera Club and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Miami for over 60 years.
Mr. Webb is preceded in passing by his parents, George and Pearl Webb, and his granddaughter Kara Alford.
Those left to share the wonderful memory of Mr. Webb include his wife of seventy one years, Frances Webb of the home, two daughters, Karen Webb of Irving, Texas, and Linda (Webb) O’Brien and her husband Bill, of Jenks, Oklahoma, brother, Carl Frank Webb, grandson, Jeremy Jacobson, four great grandchildren, Paige Delmont, Caitlin Delmont, Kylee Delmont, Layne Roberts, and two great-great grandchildren, Kennedee Thomson and Da’Vion Harris.
There will be a visitation for Mr. Webb from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, March 27, 2026, at Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Miami, with Reverend Robert Rose officiating.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Frances and George N. Webb Honorary Scholarship, the Ottawa County Historical Society, or to your favorite charity.
