Don E. Cherry's Obituary
Don E. Cherry, 77, a longtime Miami resident went to his heavenly home Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Missouri. Don was born on February 25, 1937 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Orville E. and Mary (Gold) Cherry. Mr. Cherry worked at B.F. Goodrich as a tire builder; after the plant closed he went back to Missouri Southern State College to attain his Bachelor’s Degree to become a school teacher. He taught for ten years at McCauley High School, a Catholic High School in Joplin. Don was a member of First Christian Church in Miami, loved being with his family and going to the “McCountry Club” or McDonalds for coffee with his friends. Things he enjoyed were Saint Louis Cardinals, fishing, hunting and golfing. Don’s parents precede him in passing along with a brother Michael Dale Cherry and a sister Carolyn Stewart.
His loving family are his wife Abbie Cherry of the home, his children Sam Cherry and his wife heather of Mountain Home, Idaho, Steve Cherry and his wife Lori of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Kelli Vaughn of Broken Arrow, Sandi Vaughn of Miami and Brett Vaughn of Miami, his grandchildren Tyson Cherry, Michael Cherry, Jaclyn Cherry and Elin Vaughn, great grandchildren Jadyn Cherry and Damian Cherry and one brother Orville “Pete” Cherry and his wife Ann of Bartlesville along with his nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Cherry are 2:00 PM, Monday, November 10, 2014 at First Christian Church in Miami with Minister Leon Weece and Minister Brian Brubaker officiating. Services are under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals in Don’s name.
