William (Mutt) Elmer Deems
William Deems passed away November 1, 2009 at his home in Miami. He was 91. He was born to Francis and Edna (Barger) Deems on July 17, 1917, in Miami, Oklahoma. He graduated from Miami High School. He began active duty in the Navy the day following the end of World War II. He was in the Sea Bees, serving on Yap Island. He is a retired mechanic of B. F. Goodrich and a member of the First Baptist Church.
On July 18, 1940, he married Imogene Atchley in Columbus, Kansas. She and his great grandson, Dalton Perkins, preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Irvin of Miami and Janice Babbitt and her husband, Virgil, of Liberty, Missouri; three grandchildren, Traci Irvin, Kim Triplett, and Sean Babbitt; two great grandchildren, Zachary Babbitt and Dulcie Babbitt; and one great-great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at GAR Cemetery in Miami.
The family will receive friends and family for visitation from 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home.
