Vivian Darlene Brock's Obituary
Vivian "Darlene" Brock, known affectionately by many names, passed away peacefully at her home on May 16, 2025. Born on February 23, 1942, in Fairland, Oklahoma, she was the beloved daughter of William "Taylor" Flint and Lorene Cunningham Flint.
On January 24, 1959, she married her teenage sweetheart, John Levi Brock, and together, they enjoyed a wonderful marriage for almost 50 years before he passed away in 2008.
Darlene attended Fairland Schools and graduated as a salutatorian of her class in 1960. She maintained friendships from high school throughout her entire life. She attended Tulsa School of Business, where she studied banking. She worked at banks in Tulsa, Nebraska, Miami, Oklahoma and Fairland, where she stayed for over 20 years.
Darlene and John shared their first home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Moving back to Fairland after his time in the Air Force, they built a home where their marriage blessed them with two adoring daughters, Angela and Jennifer, who were proud to call her "Mama".
Darlene walked hand in hand with God since the day she was born, being an active member of Fairland First Baptist Church her entire life. She taught children of all ages from Glo-Church to working with the youth group as well as VBS. She served on several committees and participated in many events.
Her love for her church family was palpable. Darlene’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and shaping her relationships with all who knew her.
She was a member of the Alpha Mother's Club serving as president more than once. During that time, the Meals-on-Wheels program was initiated in Fairland.
Throughout her life, Darlene was cherished by those around her. To her husband, she was lovingly known as "the old bat," often spending delightful moments in her "bat cave," perfecting her beauty routine, which he referred to as "building Rome". Her daughters called her “Mama" and was often called "Princess" by her oldest daughter while schoolmates fondly referred to her as "Smokie." By far, her most cherished title was "Mema," given to her by her grandsons and later her great-grandchildren.
Darlene had a zest for life. She loved going to flea markets in search of Fiesta and Fostoria to add to her collection, sewing, cooking for her family, gardening, and planting beautiful flowers. An adventurous spirit, she enjoyed trips with friends and family, often arriving fashionably late but always with joy in her heart. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Darlene found immense happiness in spending time with her grandsons, always ready to cook for them, frequently following it up with her signature phrase, "Little boy, I have a job for you!" She taught the value of hard work and encouraged everyone around her to reach their full potential. Darlene attended as many sporting events and activities as she possibly could that her great-grandchildren participated in, showering them with pride and affection. She eagerly embraced every opportunity to babysit, taking them outside to play, garden, or simply by rocking them to sleep. She instilled confidence and encouragement, ensuring they felt capable of achieving their dreams. Vivian Darlene Brock leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her family invites everyone to celebrate her life beginning with visitation at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland, OK from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday May 23, 2025, and a Memorial Service at the First Baptist Church in Fairland at 10:00 am Saturday, May 24, 2025. Burial will be in the Fairland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to Fairland First Baptist Church to help send children to camp, support the B4NB mission to purchase bibles for graduates in Ottawa County and/or the Operation Shoebox Mission ensuring children around the world have a blessed Christmas.
