Tom H. Chesnutt's Obituary
Thomas H. "Tom" Chesnutt, a longtime resident of Commerce, OK, passed away early Saturday morning, April the 27th, 2024, at Mercy-Columbus Hospital, after a period of declining health. He was 80 years old.
Tom was born in Columbus, KS on September the 6th, 1943 to Harold Chesnutt and Earleene (Bray) Chesnutt. He moved from Columbus to Crestline at 3 years of age along with his family. He attended grammer school in Crestline and high school in Columbus where he graduated.
He moved to Commerce, OK in 1974 from Crestline. He worked for Spencer Chemical and Gulf Oil Co. He also worked as a local driver for Yellow Freight for several years. He then worked many years for the Jim Thomas Funeral Homes, the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home, and the Paul Thomas Funeral Homes.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drinking coffee with his friends at the Woodshed in Welch. He was a member of the Teamsters. He was also a member of the Crestline Christian Church but had most recently attended the Welch Christian Church.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother, Fred; and his longtime companion, Joyce Turner.
He is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Newberry and life companion Greg Coffman of Sedgwick, KS, Cheri Frolich of Columbus, KS, and Leslie Lackamp and husband Patrick of Pittsburg, KS; one sister, Judy Burrows and husband Dean of Loma Linda, MO; a stepson, Terry Mercer of Miami; eight grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; two nephews, Randy Burrows and wife Jacque of Riverton, KS, and Brian Burrows of Fredrick, MD; and several cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, May the 2nd, 2024, at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May the 3rd, also at the funeral home. His longtime friend, Pastor Duane Elmore, will officiate. He will be laid to rest next to his twin brother in the Park Cemetery, Columbus, KS.
