Tracy
Thomas, the last time we spoke while I was giving bedside care, you reached over and grabbed my hand just to thank me for always being your friend, being there for you, listening to you, and giving you comfort. That moment will stay with me forever.
I have memories of Thomas that go back years from caring for him at another facility. He was always such a soft-spoken, sweet person who truly loved the company of others. He loved laughing, good jokes, playing on his Switch, and beating Pokémon games. He also loved his hot wings, pizza, and Dr Pepper, and always looked forward to payday so he could treat himself to the little things that made him happy.
We shared long conversations and some very special ones — conversations he told me he had never shared with others, but trusted me enough to confide in as a friend.
I remember going into his room singing Happy Birthday to him, going to the store for him, and seeing how much he appreciated even the simplest acts of kindness. That was just who Thomas was.
He will truly be missed, and I will forever be grateful that I got to know him and that he considered me a friend, because I truly considered him one too. It won’t feel the same not seeing him, but I know he is no longer in pain and has gained his wings.
Until we meet again, Thomas. ❤️
