Thomas Lee Green's Obituary
Thomas Lee Green, 87, of Miami, Okla., passed away Tuesday evening, July 30, 2019 at his home.
He was born July 16, 1932 in Miami, OK to Lewis T. and Adeline Green.
He was preceded to eternity by his parents, his sisters, Dottie Bailey, Jessie Green, and Phyliss Jo Green, a daughter, Teresa W. Green, and a granddaughter, Christa Younger.
Thomas leaves behind the love of his life, Dorothy Dean Mathis (Green), his sister, Sylvia Bell of Tulsa, his daughters, Pamela King of Afton, and Rebecca McClintock of Tulsa, two sons, Thomas Lewis Green of Afton, and Gregory William Green of Afton, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
When Thomas was younger, he loved to travel. He and a cousin set out to California and while in San Francisco, at the age of 19, he joined to Air Force. While serving his country, he traveled the world. He served in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, and all over the Middle East before returning to serve stateside. He was a cryptographic and Teletype machinist and mechanic.
He always loved to tell about waving at President Eisenhower and President Truman when he walked by them at the golf course when returning to the Pentagon.
He loved to teach his children. He taught them everything from building a house to working on a car. He also loved to watch the grandchildren. He always tried to guess what they would be when they grew up. One day, when watching 3 of the grandkids, one of them took Aunt Rebecca's stereo apart. When the parents returned, they told Thomas "we thought you were going to watch them". He said "I did watch them, and that one is going to be a good electrician".
He loved to work. It didn't matter if it was a hard job or an easy job, or whether it was hot, cold, or wet outside. Grandma Adeline once said he went to work when he was 5 years old throwing the newspaper and only once did he complain that his feet were cold so his sister, Sylvia, helped his finish his route.
He was a very intelligent man. He read the bible front to back several times. Back in May, after he had his heart attack, he told his daughter Rebecca that is was time to start praying. He always knew to pray to God because he takes care of everything, and there is no reason to be sad. He always said "there's no reason to have a suitcase full of things because you would be carrying too much when your time comes, and everyone is trying to get to the same place, our heavenly fathers home.
Visitation 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Services 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Pastor Jerry Baser will officiate. Burial will follow at Ottawa Indian Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 147.
Casket bearers will be Michael Hudson, Gregory Green, Smokee Jenkins, Marshall Green, David Green, Shawn Hudson, and David Mathis.
