Stewart Dean Woods' Obituary
Stewart Dean Woods, 62, of Bluejacket, OK, passed away on August 11, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Stewart Woods was born on July 22, 1963, in Pryor, OK to Wayne William Woods and Vada Joann (Short) Woods, and was the third of five boys. The Woods boys had a “rough and tumble” childhood in Afton, OK, where they got up to all sorts of shenanigans, such as climbing on top of train cars and jumping off once the train began to pick up speed. Many bumps and bruises later, the boys miraculously survived adolescence. Stewart and his brothers attended school in Afton, although he always preferred spending his time outside rather than in a classroom. Stew developed a love for hunting early in life and even chose to go hunting instead of attending his prom. His love of the outdoors would persist throughout his life.
After graduating high school, Stewart worked a variety of jobs. He was part of a construction crew, took an electrical apprenticeship, and worked for the county operating equipment, before starting his 30-year employment at Newell Coach. Stewart met Cindy at Newell, and they were married on September 21, 2002. They made their home in Miami, OK, where Stew became stepfather to Cindy’s two children, Grant and Summer. Their family became complete when Parker was born in 2003. They later moved to Bluejacket where Stewart would design and build their dream home with help from family and friends.
Stew was a humble man. He was never the talkative type- he knew when to keep his mouth shut and when to speak up. You would rarely catch him saying anything that wasn’t worthwhile and important. Stewart treated those around him with generosity and fairness, and he was known for his independence and integrity. Those who knew him will remember his quick wit and dry sense of humor. Although you would never hear him brag about it, Stewart was gifted with an amazing mind to match his amazing heart. He could solve any problem, fix anything that needed fixed and build anything that needed built. Many were impressed by his capabilities and said that he would have made an excellent engineer.
Stew was a country boy and outdoorsman through and through, and his deep understanding and respect for nature reflected in everything he did. He was a rancher for much of his life, and thoroughly enjoyed raising cattle, goats, and sheep. Hunting deer was one of his favorite pastimes, one that he especially enjoyed sharing with his grandsons. When he wasn’t outside, he could often be found looking out the window, observing his livestock, watching wildlife, or just admiring God’s creation.
Stew was a man who enjoyed simple things in life. He liked black coffee, Wrangler blue jeans, checking his trail cameras, and picking his teeth, whether it be with a toothpick or a piece of cardboard. More than anything though, Stewart loved his God and his family. He was a committed husband and father, and a dedicated Papa who never missed a ball game when his boys were playing. Stewart was the calm in any storm and the voice of reason in every situation. He was a solid rock, provider, and supporter for those he loved.
Stewart was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Joann Woods and his younger brother Monte Ray Woods. He is survived by his wife Cindy, three children Grant Watson, Summer Watson, and Parker Woods, two grandsons Cash Ensten and Asa Watson, brothers Mike and wife Sheryll, Lane and wife Dedra, Chris, and a whole slew of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the ALS Association.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Miami.
Stewart's Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 15, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Miami, with Reverend Ron Rabel officiating. Services have been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Honorary Pallbearers are Mike, Lane, Chris and Austin Woods, Grant Watson, Brent Sturges, Stacy Oakley, Ron Rabel, and his Newell family.
Junior Pallbearers will be Cash Ensten and Asa Watson.
