Ruby Deloris Garrett's Obituary
Ruby Deloris (Martin) Garrett, 82, of Chetopa, KS, passed away Thursday evening, September the 26th, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She was born April the 4th, 1942 in Vinita, OK to Charlie and Mary (Cates) Martin. While growing up, her parents constructed grain elevators, requiring moving several times. After graduating high school, she attended NEO A&M College and earned her Associate Degree in Nursing.
She retired from Eastern State Hospital in Vinita. She then worked at Renaissance for several years. Her nursing career lasted 47 years. In her spare time she loved to shop, work in her flower beds, decorate for all the holidays, and making jewelry. She was a member of the Maybelle Baptist Church.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Lynn Hayes and Cindy Dry; and a brother, Charles "Dub" Martin.
She is survived by three children, Lisa Jackson and husband Jeff of rural Chetopa, KS, Robin Tullis and husband Gary of rural Welch, and Todd Veach of Tulsa, OK; a brother, Fred Martin and wife Kathy of Claremore, OK; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, September the 30th, at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October the 1st, also at the funeral home. Pastor Lindy Leforce will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bluejacket Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Gregg McLain, Cooper McLain, Chance Nigh, Bub Nigh, Bailey Martin, and Jason Martin. Honorary casket bearers will be Lloyd Martin, Boyd Martin, Ronnie Blevins, Bob Nigh, Sonny Winfrey, and Neal McLain.
