Roy W. Arnold's Obituary
Roy W. Arnold, 92, of Miami, OK, passed away July 25, 2018 at Windridge Nursing and Rehab in Miami, surrounded by his family.Roy was born July 19, 1926 in Overbrook, KS to D.W. Arnold and Millie Della (Long) Arnold. On February 14, 1944, he married Anna Jo Corn and at the age of 18, joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1957 he went to work for the Miami Fire Department, retiring in 1978 with the rank of Fire Captain. He was a longtime member of Miami Masonic Lodge #140 AF&AM. Anna Jo preceded Roy in death on March 23, 2015.Roy later married Kari Zoe Puryear. They made their home in Miami where they enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kari Zoe passed away March 12, 2018, after a sudden illness.Roy was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elizabeth Foust; grandsons, Jay Whitlock and Toby Foust; great-grandson, Tyler Wilmoth; 5 brothers; and 6 sisters.He is survived by 3 daughters, Louise Whitlock and Kara Sharpensteen, both of Miami, Kandi Hale and husband, Skip, of Frontenac, 3 sons, Mark Puryear of Fairland, John Puryear and Larry Puryear, both of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Aaron Whitlock and Misty Tiffany and husband Mike, all of Miami, Leon Foust and wife Angela, of Bartlesville, and K.W. Hale of Frontenac; great-grandchildren, Jaydale Whitlock, Daltun Whitlock, Mindy Garvin, Reid Foust, Taylor Foust, and Kelsie Foust; great-great grandchildren, Benjamin Garvin and Willliam Garvin; 3 sisters, Maggie Williamson, Danielle Willim and Margaret Pliler, all of Miami; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Welch. A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. prior to service time. Masonic Rites will be performed during visitation time, by the Miami Masonic Lodge #140 AF&AM. Military Rites will be held at the graveside and performed by the American Legion Post #147. Zack Turley, Bagpipes, representing Quapaw Fire & EMS, Fire Honor Guard.Serving as casket bearers will be Roy Ross, Bob Turner, Mike Payton, Dennis Reavis, Sam VanHoose, Hiram Price, Robert Wright, Curtis McBrien and Gary Reynolds.Roy will be laid to rest in the Walker Cemetery, West of Welch.
