Ron Forkum's Obituary
Longtime Miami businessman, Aaron Ronnie "Ron" Forkum, 77, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born January 15, 1936 in Jonesboro, AR to E.T. and Cleona Nancy (Emerson) Forkum. He was a graduate of Joplin High School. Ron owned a successful printing business in Miami for over 50 years. He was involved in many civic groups during his lifetime including Jaycees, Elks, Miami Little Theatre, Chairman of Ottawa County Democrats, Congressional Aide to Representative Ted Risenhoover, President of Oklahoma-Texas Kiwanis, and was a lifelong supporter of the Democratic Party. Ron was a candidate for State Representative as well as Lieutenant Governor, and served as Oklahoma Democratic Secretary Treasurer. He was also a member of the Grand Lake Association President Cabinet. He was also a boxing trainer in his early days in Miami, and was instrumental in forming Pop Warner football in the area. Ron was a loving father and grandfather who will be missed by his family, friends and all who have known him. He is survived by his daughter, Ronda Forkum-Weisz and spouse Mark of Lenexa, KS; 2 sons, Greg Forkum and spouse Lynn of Miami, and Guy Forkum of Miami; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Shelly Forkum; mother of his children, Linda Forkum; 1 brother, Tom of Peru, NY; and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Billy, and 1 sister, Nancy Forkum-James. Private family services will be held. The family will be receiving friends to celebrate Ron's life on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the family home, 825 West Central in Miami. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Way.
