Robert L Rice's Obituary
Twenty-seven year resident of Miami, Oklahoma Mr. Robert L. Rice passed away Friday February 13, 2009 at his home in Miami, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years. Robert was born October 29, 1926 in Argentine, Kansas to his parents David and Sarah Violet Gilmore Rice. Robert served his country in the United States Army. Robert took Miss Doris Toomey as his bride in Chanute, Kansas on August 27, 1950. They both have been longtime members of the First United Methodist Church of Miami. Robert was a woodworking teacher and later the Principal for Welch High School. He loved building furniture and working with his hands. Robert loved his grandchildren dearly. You could find him on any given sunny day with his grandkids hunting for rocks that they would later turn into treasures. The late John Wayne was Robert’s true hero.
Although he is no longer with us, his memory and legacy will be kept alive through the family and friends he leaves behind which include: His wife of 59 years Doris Rice of the home, 1 Daughter: Leslie Rice of Miami, Ok, and 1 Son: Greg and wife Linda Rice of Wichita, Kansas, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives longtime friends and neighbors.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
A memorial fund has been set at First United Methodist Church in his honor.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday February 17, 2009 at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kathy Leithner officiating. Interment will follow at GAR Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday evening February 16, 2009 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
