Preston Curry's Obituary
Preston Curry, 97, of Miami, OK, passed away August 12, 2013 at his home. He was born June 5, 1916 in Craig County, East of Welch, to Fred and Mattie (Williams) Curry. He was a graduate of Welch High School, and attended Miami Business College. Preston was active in his community. He was a charter member of the Mound Valley Baptist Church for over 60 years, and served as Deacon for 55 years. He became a member of the Maybelle Baptist Church 3 years ago where he continued to be active. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Welch for 75 years, as well as the Welch Senior Citizens. In 1948, he married Myrtle Marie Myers at the First Baptist Church in Miami. The couple made their home West of Miami. Myrtle preceded Preston in death on May 11, 1987. Preston worked for US Metal for 15 years. He was the sexton and caretaker of Williams Timberhill Cemetery for many years before his retirement in May of this year. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, mowing, reading, working crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Preston was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrtle, of 39 ½ years; 1 brother; and 1 sister. He is survived by 1 son, Ronald Lee Curry, of the home; 1 daughter, Carol Rutherford and her husband Steve, of Sallisaw; 2 grandchildren, Mark Rutherford and his wife Amber of Sallisaw, and B.R. Rutherford and his wife Markie, of Ganns, OK; 4 great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Gunny, Landyn, and Grayson Rutherford; 1 sister, Lucille Brady, of Oklahoma City; and a host of friends. There will be a visitation for family and friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Mound Valley Baptist Church, West of Miami. Rev. Steve Rutherford and Rev. Lindy Leforce will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be B.R. Rutherford, Mark Rutherford, Jerry Myers, Jerry Housman, Jim Williams, and Frank Eulitt. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
