Phillis Jane Hughes' Obituary
Phillis Jane Hughes, 81, of rural Welch, Okla., passed away Monday afternoon, February 28th, 2022, at Freeman West in Joplin, MO, after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family.
She was born February 15, 1941 in Miami to her parents, Charles and Opal (Hedges) Utsler. She was a graduate of Miami High School. She then attended NEO A&M College where she earned her Associate Degree. While at NEO, she was a member of the Norse Stars Drill Team. She continued her education at Oklahoma State University.
Jane came to know the Lord early in life. She was saved and baptized at the First Baptist Church in Miami on June 11th, 1950. Her love of the Lord showed through her ability to help others. In never mattered what you needed, she was there to help. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, cooking, sewing, sharing recipes, and her family and friends.
She was a true friend to so many. She used her talents of sewing, cooking, and crocheting to help those around her. Whether it was a meal for a sick friend, sewing blankets for nursing homes, or making gifts for church members, she was there to lend a helping hand. She was a member of the Mound Valley Baptist Church.
Her family meant the world to her, and she dedicated her life to them. She took care of her parents until their passing. She was so very proud of her daughter and grandchildren. She dearly loved them and treasured every moment with them.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Charles Utsler, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Heather Wiegand and husband Shaun of rural Welch; three grandchildren, Kase, Mason, and Majen Wiegand; along with three nieces and one nephew.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 7th, 2022, at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Wayne Engle will officiate.
