Pauline Wilson's Obituary
Mrs. Pauline Wilson went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2009, in Miami, Oklahoma, at the age of 80 years. Pauline was born in Houston, Texas, to her parents Kirby and Ila Davis Staton on August 23, 1929. On February 23, 1949, in Bentonville, Arkansas, Pauline married the love of her life, Mr. Robert Lee Wilson. They have resided in Miami ever since.
Pauline graduated from Miami High School and then from Hillcrest Nursing School as a registered nurse. She was a Public Health Nurse and an officer of the Ottawa County Board of Health for many years. Before retiring from B. F. Goodrich, Pauline provided outstanding nursing care and comfort to any worker who came into the Dispensary during her tenure as head nurse there.
Pauline was the first female member of the Miami City Council and served as mayor pro-tem. She was a charter member and current Board member of MAEDS. Pauline served as vice chair of MDRA as well as chair of the Architectural Committee. She served as City of Miami Police and Fire Commissioner. Pauline was famous city-wide for using walnut brownies to influence important city decisions.
Pauline served the Lord through the First United Methodist Church in Miami as a life-long member. She was a Sunday school teacher, member of the TNT class, taught the Disciples Class and was a member of the UMW where she held many offices. Pauline was a Lay Leader, chair of the Administrative Board and served on every committee of the church over the years. She was a voting lay member of the Oklahoma United Methodist Church Annual Conference where she thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the third row center in front of the Bishop. Pauline welcomed every new member to the Church and took their photo for the bulletin board and acts of kindness too numerous to account.
Above all these civic and professional accomplishments, Pauline’s greatest joy was her family. Bob was the love of her life and together they had two children of whom they are very proud. Pauline absolutely beamed when sharing stories and photos of her grandchildren Ryan, Moriah and Chelsea and great-grandchildren Chance, Presley, Reeve, Raleigh and Ridge.
Pauline touched the hearts and lives of countless people and will be dearly missed by her loving family, her church, and the community that was her home.
She is survived by her husband Robert, of the home; daughter Rebecca (Duane) Russell of Colorado, on R. Wes Wilson, M.D. (Diane) of Tulsa, brother Kenneth (Katherine) Staton of Hawaii, sister Gladys Saenz of Miami, grandsons Ryan (Ramsee) Gosney of Colorado, Spencer and Kirby Wilson of Tulsa, granddaughters Moriah Gosney of Australia, Chelsea (Brian) Harding of Colorado and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held October 15, 2009 from 6 till 7:30PM at the First United Methodist Church
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, October 16,2009 at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kathy Leithner officiating. Interment will follow at GAR cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home, Miami. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 B N.W., Miami, OK 74354.
