Orville Winford James' Obituary
Orville Winford James, 92, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away late Friday evening, June the 2nd, 2023, at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg.
Winford was born November the 2nd, 1930 in Iowa Park, Texas to JC and Juanita (Miller) James. He was graduate of Bluejacket High School, Class of 1949.
On May the 24th, 1950, he married the love of his life, Deloras "Sis" Fugate in a ceremony in the Timberhill area of rural Bluejacket, OK. He worked at Pitcher Coal Mines before moving to Plainville, KS to work in the oil fields. He returned to Oklahoma in 1956 and lived in Quapaw. He worked for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority from the time it opened in 1957 until 1971.
He then moved to Welch in 1971 where he and Deloras owned and operated the Hitchin Post Cafe. They later ventured to Pittsburg, KS where they owned and operated the Bonanza Steakhouse for many years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Pittsburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloras "Sis" James; his parents; his brothers and sisters in law, Doyle and Joyce James, Francis and Lora Ellen James, Bill James, and Virgil Dewayne James; a grandson, Clint James; and his daughter in law, Kay Ann James.
He is survived by two sons; Jesse James of Katy, TX, and Mike James and wife Bonnie of Tyro, KS; a daughter, Sandy Brant and husband Lane of Pittsburg, KS; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June the 17th, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita where Winford and Deloras will be inurned together and laid to rest. C.W. Betz will officiate.
