Oleta Douglas' Obituary
Georgia "Oleta" Douglas, 94, of Welch, Okla., passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her family. Oleta was born October 19, 1922 in Roane, TX to K.C. McCreary and Lillie (Skipper) McCreary. On September 22, 1940, she married her true love, Jack W. Douglas, as Jack was working at Corsicana, TX at the Burkes Brother's Ranch. Jack and Oleta began their family early with the birth of their oldest son, Jary, before moving to Welch in 1948. After settling in Welch, the couple would complete their loving family with the arrival of Brenda and Lary. Oleta had a heart for helping people. This showed in the care she gave as a Nurse Aide at Eastern State Hospital. She was also known for caring for her community where her and Jack owned and operated Jack's Quick Stop for many years. When Oleta acquired an ice cream machine for the Quick Stop, every kid in town frequented the store because they knew she would give them a free ice cream cone. She was a workaholic, an avid homemaker, and enjoyed quilting, gardening, and her beautiful grandchildren. She was a long time member of the Welch Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, and brother in law, Dr. Joe Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda DeLozier and husband Jerry of Chelsea, Okla.; two sons, Jary Douglas and wife Marsha of Grove, OK, and Lary Douglas of Weimar, Texas; one brother, Donald McCreary and wife Bobbie of Corsicana, Texas; one sister, Leola Smith of Manhattan, Kans.; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, along with a host of friends. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Thomas Funeral Home chapel in Welch. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Welch Baptist Church. Greg Highsmith and Pastor Bob Whitchurch will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Welch Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Levi Douglas, Brandon Douglas, Heath Rickman, Joe Smith, Scott McCreary, George Seals, Lawson Essex, and Bill Porter. Honorary casket bearers will be Strawberry Triece, Sandy Arnold, Peggy Stutsman, Kandy Ayers, Bob Eubanks, Dr. Steve Grigsby, and Doyal Haws.
