Norma Jean Prater's Obituary
Norma Jean Prater, of Miami, OK, passed away Saturday, May 6th, 2023, after a period of declining health. She was 88 years old.
She was born September 26th, 1934, in Wyandotte, OK. Her parents were George Emmett Foster and Venda Pauline (Wood) Foster. She received her education from the Seneca Public Schools. On June 2nd, 1951, she married the love of her life, Donald Lon Prater, in a ceremony held in Eureka Springs, AR.
Norma and Donald spent their married life on their family farm in the Wyandotte, OK area. While Donald worked at B.F. Goodrich, Norma assumed the role of homemaker and rancher. Many memories were made as they raised their daughters on the farm as well as time spent on the farm with the grandchildren.
When Norma had spare time, she relaxed by knitting, embroidering, cooking, and reading magazines and newspapers. She also loved travelling and going camping with Ken and Lola. She found great joy in shopping and eating out with her daughter, Glenda.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald, who passed away February 12th,2020; her daughter, Rhonda Rabel; and her six siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Fansler, of Miami; two grandsons, Ty Fansler and wife Natalie of Mokena, IL, and Brandon Rabel and wife Sara of Webb City, MO; three granddaughters, Misty Rabel of Webb City, MO and fiancé Jonathan Howe of Joplin, MO, Natalie Beachner and husband Jared of Webb City, and Emily Fansler-Bakari and husband Martin of Lynwood, WA; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers in law, Ken and Danny Prater; and a sister in law, Mary Lewis.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 11th, 2023 at the Commerce Community Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Rabel officiating.
Services are entrusted to the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Welch.
