Nell Louise Runyon's Obituary
Nell Louise Runyon, of Miami, OK, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Eastwood Manor in Commerce, surrounded by her family. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday in March. Nell was born March 24, 1924 in Miami, Oklahoma to Roy and Ruby (Peckham) Giles. She was a graduate of Miami High School. On October 14, 1946, she married Delbert Lucas. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1959. She later married Tillman Runyon on February 2, 1963. After 32 years together, he preceded her in death on March 19, 1995. Nell was proud of her Indian heritage. She was a member of the Peoria Indian Tribe of Oklahoma. She was also an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Miami as well as the home Extension Group for many years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; step-son, Terry Runyon; 4 brothers, John, Marion, Gary, and Moody Giles; and 2 sisters, Alice Burgess and Shirley Carlson. She is survived by step-children, Leon Lucas of Granburg, TX, Timothy Runyon and wife Shirley of Quapaw, Tom Runyon of Pontiac, Michigan; 1 brother, Carol Giles of Commerce, 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; 2 brother-in-laws, Roger Carlson of Wichita, KS, and Bill Burgess of Welch; 1 sister-in-law, Joanna Giles of Miami; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami, OK. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Peoria Indian Cemetery, East of Miami, OK. Pastor August A. "Butch" Miller will officiate. Interment following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Peoria Tribal Children's Christmas Party. The body will lie in state at the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, until 10:00 a.m. Sunday, then will be moved to Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.
