Merle Edwin Neil's Obituary
Merle Edwin Neil, Jr., a lifelong resident of Welch, Okla., passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla., after an illness. He was 77 years old.Merle was born October 8, 1940 in Welch to Merle Edwin Neil, Sr. and Nadine (Wilkins) Neil. He was a graduate of Welch High School. He was married to Phyllis Mullens for many years until her passing on April 22, 2002. He was a member of the Cherokee Nation and the Delaware Tribe of Indians.He was a brake operator for McDonnell Douglas for 28 years, working in the production of fighter jets. He loved bird hunting, raising quail, and working in his garden. He was joy to visit with. His friendly, quiet nature led to him having many wonderful friends.He is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, Ronnie Neil; and two sisters, Twyla Lathrop and Deborah Lederman.He is survived by two daughters, Kerri Sayers of Welch, and Traci Lewis and husband Scotty, also of Welch; one brother, Bob Neil and wife Patricia of Welch; one granddaughter, Shelby Lewis; 3 nieces, and 2 nephews.The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018, with services at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2018, both at the Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Welch. Pastor John Dorsey will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the Walker Cemetery, west of Welch.Casket bearers will be Scotty Lewis, Lester Lee Lewis, Brad Mount, Steve Davis, Shannon Walker, and Amber Ashworth.
