Mary Sue Williams' Obituary
Mary Sue Williams, 98, of Miami, Oklahoma passed from this life on September 7, 2023, at Higher Call Nursing Center. Mary Sue was born on January 17, 1925, in Springfield, Missouri to Nelson and Mildred Garinger. She grew up on a farm Northeast of Mount Vernon, Missouri and attended a one room schoolhouse through 8th grade. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School with the Class of 1943.
Mary Sue met Paul Williams during high school. She traveled by train to California to marry Paul who was serving in the Navy during World War II. They were married July 12, 1945, and celebrated seventy-five years of marriage.
Mary Sue and Paul moved to Miami in 1957. Mary Sue worked for First National Bank in Miami for twenty-seven years. After retirement she and Paul traveled on bus trips and a trip to Europe. She loved to travel and was always a good navigator and loved to study maps.
Mary Sue loved to sew and cook. Her peanut brittle was a favorite of family and friends. She sewed dresses for daughters and granddaughters including prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and a wedding dress. She loved her family and was the family genealogist. She was able to see all her children graduate college, married, have children and attended all their special events. Mary Sue was very active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church for sixty-five years. If the doors were open Mary Sue and Paul were there using their talents where needed.
Mary Sue is survived by two daughters Marilyn Cheatwood (Carl) of Miami, Marla Heydt (Tim) of Loveland, Colorado. She was Grandma Sue to five grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, One sister Judy Hood of Miller, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Sue was preceded in passing by her husband Paul Williams, parents Nelson and Mildred Garinger and one sister Martha Boyd.
Her family will miss her, but will cherish all our happy, fun and special memories.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church or Oklahoma Baptist Children’s Home.
Visitation will be 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Friday, September 15, 2023, at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 16, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Miami with Reverend Rick Longcrier officiating. Interment is at Glen Abbey Memorial Garden in Miami. Services have been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
