Mary Eileen Johnson's Obituary
Mary Eileen Johnson, of rural Welch, Okla., passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Chetopa Manor, surrounded by her loving family. She was 89 years old.
She was born January 27, 1932 in Chelsea, Okla. to Clarence Leroy Maggard and Felita Fern (Minson) Maggard. Mary left school after the 10th grade to go to work, like so many had to years ago. Later, she married Ralph Richard Johnson and from this union, two children were born.
While raising her children on the family farm on the Kansas State line, she worked several years at Eastern State Hospital in Vinita. She then returned to being a homemaker, caring for the kids and helping with the farm. When time allowed she loved crocheting and tending to her flowers. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, James and Daryl Maggard.
She is survived by a daughter, Felita Johnson of rural Welch; a son, Richard Johnson and wife Kim of rural Welch; a sister, Patsy Meyer of Chelsea; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2021, from 6-7 p.m., at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Oakhill Cemetery in Chetopa. Pastor Randy Frazier will officiate.
