Marvin David Morris' Obituary
Marvin David Morris, a longtime Wyandotte resident passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 at the age of 86. Marvin was born on April 23, 1928 in Columbus, Kansas to Andrew S. and Georgia Pearl (Gregory) Morris. Marvin served his country in the United States Navy Air Corps during the Korean War. After coming home from his deployment, he work on a farm, a service station at a shoe-shine shop as a shoe-maker before he went to BF Goodrich for thirty-eight and half years, where he retired as a Warehouse Manager. Marvin married the love of his life, Dolores Holtmeyer, in 1952, in Washington, Missouri. He was member of the American Legion, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Saint Elizabeth’s Catholic Church where he served as deacon for thirty-one years. Mr. Morris hunted quail, pheasant, rabbits and squirrels, and was a fisherman as well. For Thirty-Five years he announced the football games at Wyandotte High School. Marvin loved watching kids play ball, whether it be the football boys or one of his many grandkids. A quote Marvin used a lot was “If you want a better world you gotta work for it.”
Mr. Morris is preceded in death by his parents, a son Joseph Neil Morris, one sister Martha Horton along with a brother Neil Morris.
His surviving family includes his wife of 62 years Dolores Morris, his children and their spouses Juliana Purdum and her husband Lynn, David Andrew Morris and his wife Karen, Theresa Marie Hammers and her husband James, Christopher John Morris and his wife Maria, Thomas Patrick Morris and his wife Kathy, Mary Jolene Burgess and her husband Rob, Mark Edward Morris, Robert Marvin Morris and his wife DaAnn and Andrea Marie Sullivan and her husband David, twenty eight grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren and his sister Myrtle Henson.
On Wednesday, October 22, 2014 there will be a visitation starting at 6:00 PM then a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Most Reverend Edward J. Slattery Bishop, Diocese of Tulsa as Celebrant and Reverend Alex Kennedy as Homilist. Interment will follow at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post #147. Honor Guard will also be provided by Knights of Columbus.
Pallbearers will be Marvin’s grandsons Nicholas Hammers, Michael Hammers, Jeffrey Morris, John Morris, Shelby Morris, Christopher Morris, Joseph Morris and Adam Smalley.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Walls, Robert Taylor, Richard Scheaffer, Roy McKinney, Terry Durborrow, Dennis Yust, David Walser, Ed Meyer, Virgil Jurgensmeyer, Terry Jurgensmeyer and Gus Brossett.
