Martha Suson Walker's Obituary
Martha Suson Walker, a longtime resident of rural Welch, OK, passed away at her home Friday evening, August the 23rd, 2024, after a period of declining health. She was 89 years old.
She was born in rural Chetopa, KS on August the 29th, 1934 to William Lincoln Paul and Inola Josephine (Duncan) Paul. She was a graduate of Chetopa High School.
On June the 5th, 1953, she married Wayne Walker in a ceremony in Colorado Springs, CO. They made their home north of Welch for many years. She was a homemaker and a proud military wife. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation and the United Methodist Church in Chetopa. She loved quilting, embroidery, travelling, birdwatching, and an occasional trip to the casino.
She is preceded in death by her husband Wayne, and her parents.
She is survived by one son, Randy Walker and wife Becky of Welch; four grandchildren, Glen Walker and wife KC of Welch, Brad Walker of Miami, Bobbie Jo Castle and husband Jason of Welch, and Brandon Walker and wife Mindy of Miami; ten great grandchildren, Khyler Walker, Jaylee Castle, twins Khailyn and Jillian Walker, Zoey Walker, Kole Walker, Brogan Castle, Rylee Walker, Teagan Walker, and Raegan Walker; her very special friends, Wayne and Sandy Baker; and her beloved cat, Cassie.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, also at the Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Chetopa, KS. Casket bearers will be grandsons, great grandson Khyler, and friend, Bill Moses.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Golden Paw Pet Rescue 2300 North Main Joplin, MO 64801, or to Disabled Veterans National Foundation c/o the funeral home.
