Leona Faye Furnas' Obituary
Leona Faye Furnas, a longtime Chetopa, Kansas resident, passed away Tuesday evening, September 22, 2015 at Freeman Health System in Joplin, MO. She was 78 years old. Leona was born November 19, 1936 in Independence, MO to Clifton Broyles and Audrie (Hart) Broyles. She was a graduate of Chetopa High School. On October 4, 1963, she married Everett "Pete" Furnas in Columbus, KS. She was a homemaker and also worked in the field of Home Health Nursing. She was a member of the Community Bible Church in Chetopa. She loved to sew, but, her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, Terry Wylie and Ronnie Wylie; and one great grandson, Ridge Blackburn. Leona is survived by her husband, Everett "Pete" Furnas; one daughter, Janice Foss and husband Craig of Hollister, MO; 2 grandsons, Randy Wylie of Columbus, KS and Jeremiah Foss of Kirksville, MO; 5 granddaughters, Mary Canada of Parsons, KS, Tina Wylie of Parsons, KS, Kami Evans of Oswego, KS, Teri Wylie of Chetopa, KS, and Mandi Blackburn of Parsons, KS; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; and one brother, Jerry Broyles and wife Lynda of Chetopa, KS, along with a host of friends. A visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Thomas Funeral Home in Welch, OK. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 at Oakhill Cemetery in Chetopa, KS. Pastor Randy Frazier will officiate. Casket bearers will be Jeremy Blackburn, Brent Evans, Austin Pollard, and Traxton Huls. Honorary casket bearers will be Rilan Blackburn, Roper Blackburn, and Kaiden Pursley.
