Kenneth L. Price's Obituary
Kenneth L. Price, 92 years old, passed away at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, May 20, 2015. Born March 12, 1923 in Miami, Oklahoma to E. Murrell Price and Blanche Melton Price. A lifelong resident of Miami graduating from Miami High School in 1942. Active in Boy Scouts he attained Eagle Scout rank. He worked at Spartan Aircraft in Miami as an airplane mechanic prior to being drafted into the United States Army. As a Private First Class World War II Veteran serving from January 1943 to December 1945 participated in the Normandy Campaign D-Day landing at Omaha Beach as a member of the First Army, 428th Military Police Escort Guard. Additional Battle Campaigns of Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe followed. Kenneth was cut off for eight days during Battle of the Bulge. He ended his one year and eight months of overseas duty guarding the American Sector in Berlin. Was awarded Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and European Theater Ribbon with one Silver Star and one Bronze Arrowhead.
After returning, Kenneth started working at the B.F. Goodrich plant in Miami, retiring after thirty-four years. Kenneth loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and especially his family. Pursuing an interest in woodworking in retirement building numerous pieces of furniture starting with a grandfather clock he said he was always going to make.
Kenneth married Audrey M. Hunter June 29, 1947. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph J. Price and wife Audrey.
He is survived by two sons Ron, daughter in law Sheila of LaCygne, Kansas and David of Miami. Two granddaughters Julie Oetken husband Glen and Jill Peuser; husband Matt both of Olathe, Kansas, six great grandchildren, Christopher, Olivia, Karlee, Sophie Oetken; Dylan and Zachary Peuser.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami on Friday, May 22, 2015.
Services are 10:00 AM Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Mark Rickman officiating. Interment will follow at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Miami under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #147 Funeral Honors Team and by Buglers of America.
Casketbearers will be Col. Larry Renick, Troy Essex, Bob Powell, Harold Simkins, Von Vanover and Mike White
