Karen Kay Thompson's Obituary
Karen Kay Thompson, 68, Welch, OK, went to be with the Lord, early Friday morning, November 17, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO, with her family at her side. She was born November 1, 1949 in Baxter Springs, KS to Charles Grayson Couch and Thelma Treca (White) Couch. On June 4, 1966, Karen married the love of her life, Dale Robert Thompson, in Cardin, OK. They made their home in Baxter Springs, KS for twenty five years before moving to Craig County to be close to Dale's work. While there, Karen worked as a caregiver and became supervisor of housekeeping at Craig General Hospital. After Dale's retirement, he and Karen moved to Miami from Vinita to be closer to their family. Dale preceded her in death on December 22, 2011. Karen loved the Lord. Her ministry of caregiving was one that was heartfelt throughout the community and continues on through her children. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, volunteer work, and watching HGTV with her beloved dog, Bella. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, and 2 sisters. She is survived by 3 daughters, Melissa Kay Vanatta and husband, Jack, of Welch, Treca Ruth Bradley and husband, Mitch, of Miami, and Jennifer Louise Piercefield and fiancé, Randy Greenwood of Bluejacket; 6 grandchildren, Kyia Kay Ann Vanatta and fiancé, Kyle, Austin Dale Vanatta, Colton Edward Vanatta, Wyatt Lee Vanatta, all of Welch, Dylan Lane Piercefield and Emily Jade Piercefield, both of Bluejacket; 2 great grandsons, Ethan Ball and Hunter Greenfeather; 1 sister, Joyce Rader of Galena, KS; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Gateway Church, Welch. Pastor John Dorsey will officiate.
