Joyce Maxine McGhee's Obituary
Joyce Maxine McGhee, 91, a longtime resident of Welch, Okla., passed away Monday, February 4, 2019 in Rogers, Arkansas, after a long illness.
She was born September 27, 1927 in Dinura, California to Marshall B. Moore and Laura Lee (Norfleet) Moore. She was a high school graduate and continued her education with two years of college. On May 1, 1946, she married the love of her life, John Warren "Fibber" McGhee in Columbus, Kansas.
She was employed by the Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Kansas for 22 years. Her and her husband operated the McGhee Fish Farm northeast of Welch from 1949 until 2003. Her favorite hobbies included Indian beading and sewing. She loved her family dearly and was so proud of her grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the Welch Assembly of God Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John on July 26, 2009; one son, Dennis McGhee on February 18, 1998; one sister, Doris Romero; and three brothers, Orval, Albert, and Howard Moore.
She is survived by one son, Stephen McGhee and wife Thelma of Miami, Okla; one daughter LaRain Carder and husband Donald of Norman, Okla.; six grandchildren; and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held in the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Welch from 5:00p.m.-6:30p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2019. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019, also in the Chapel. Pastor John Dorsey will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in a private burial at the Williams Timberhill Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Shaun and Shane McGhee, John Allen Daugherty, Travis Cohron, and Lee and John Dorsey. Honorary casket bearers will be Shanda Daugherty, Ginger Cohron, Whitney McGhee, and James and Kimberly Storey.
