John Gary Steele's Obituary
John Gary Steele, 74, of Verdigris, Okla., passed away late Wednesday evening, February 10, 2021, in Muskogee. He was born June 1, 1946, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Johnnie Steele and Helen (Walker) Steele.
John was a high school graduate, joining the United States Marines after his graduation. He bravely served his country from 1965-1969. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2976, and the Disabled American Veterans, both in Claremore.
On July 17, 1978, he married the absolute love of his life, the former Pamela Hobbs, in a ceremony in Bluejacket, Okla. He loved truck driving and was owner/operator of his own truck for 48 years. In his spare time, he loved leatherwork, horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Cedar Point Church in Claremore.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Larry Joe Steele.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela, of the home; a daughter, Nikki Brugger of Aurora, CO; two granddaughters, Kayla and Rylee; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2021, at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. He will be laid to rest in the Walker Cemetery, west of Welch. John and Pamela's nephews, serving as casket bearers, will be Gary Steele, Matthew Steele, Mike Barlow, Bobby Lewis, Tim Lewis, and Todd Rue.
