John Donald Giles' Obituary
John Donald Giles, born May 22, 1925, in Miami, Oklahoma passed from this life on January 1, 2009, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.
John was the son of Roy and Ruby (Peckham) Giles. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was stationed in Germany. After returning from Germany, he married his childhood sweetheart, Joanna Clark. They were married for 62 years. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Jane Weeden and her husband, Dural, West Bristol, PA., Sharon Ann Westphal and husband, Jim, Miami, Oklahoma and son Donald Eugene Giles, Miami, Oklahoma.
John was a life long member of First Baptist Church in Miami. He sang in the adult choir for close to 50 years before his health prevented it. He also served as an inactive Deacon.
John (Pekaw) as his grandchildren fondly called him is survived by six grandchildren. Misti Dawn Giles Ramsey( Bob), Centerview, Mo, Steven Donald Giles (Stephany), Afton, Ok. Christopher James Westphal (Nancy), Dallas, Texas, Matthew Donald Westphal (Tracy), Miami, Ok, Jamie Chenoweth (Todd), Miami, Ok, Jaki Blevins, Afton, Ok, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his sisters Nell Giles Runyon, Miami, Oklahoma, Alice Giles Burgess, Welch, Ok, Shirley Giles Carlson, Wichita, Ks, brothers, Carol Ed Giles, Commerce, Ok., and Gary Giles, Miami, Ok. Many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly with many memories.
Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 2-3 pm at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday January 5, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Miami, Ok, with Pastor Rick Longcrier officiating. Burial will be at the Peoria Cemetery.
