Joe Jorgenson's Obituary
Verlin Joe "Good Looking Joe" Jorgenson, 81, a longtime resident of rural Welch, OK, passed away early Wednesday morning, June the 19th, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born December the 17th, 1942 in Center, South Dakota, to Samuel Jorgenson and Edith Mae (Stevens) Jorgenson. He was a graduate of Chetopa High School in Chetopa, KS. On September the 19th, 1964, he married the love of his life, the former Linda Turner, in a ceremony in Chetopa. They made their home northeast of Welch where they raised their children.
He worked several years for Leon's Coal Company, Coca-Cola, Boeing, and a fertilizer plant. He and Linda then began the family business, Jorgenson Equipment, north of Welch, where they sold primarily Vermeer hay balers, a later a line of lawn equipment. Many friendships were made through their business that carried on well after retirement. He then dedicated himself full time to ranching, taking pride in the cattle he raised.
When time allowed and he could get away, he enjoyed travelling with Linda. He attended the Welch Christian Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Bud and Fern Turner, Larry Frogley, T.J. Vance, and Shirley Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; son, Rusty Jorgenson and wife Jennifer of rural Welch; a daughter, Kristi Baker, of Girard, KS; two sisters, Gloria Vance and Carol (Jerg) Frogley; a brother in law, Bill Turner; grandchildren, Lexie Baker, Gannon Jorgenson, Josh Baker, Jaeli Volmer (Mason), and Kasey Bailey; great grandchildren Kimber Blaine and Jackson Baker; and god children, Tonia Wilson (Darren), Jerica Wilson, Deja Wilson, and Moxyn Wilson.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June the 22nd, 2024, at the Welch Cemetery. Tyler Dillon will officiate. Casket bearers will be Kenny Porter, Larry Powell, Mike Brady, Roy Dean, John Vasquez, Kevin Smith, and Kevin Mayfield. Honorary casket bearers will be Bruce Vasquez, Butch Garrett, Dale Tullis, V.O. Morgan, and Ernie Tullis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Welch FFA c/o of Welch Public Schools 707 South Curtis, Welch, OK 74369.
