Joanna Lee Giles' Obituary
Joanna Lee (Clark) Giles, a longtime resident of Miami, Okla., left her earthly home to be with Jesus on May 25, 2021, at Higher Call Nursing Center in Quapaw, Okla. She was 95 years young.
Joanna was born on August 24, 1925 in Wagoner, Okla. to Mrs. Nannie Clark. When Joanna was six months old, her family moved to Miami. Her mother supported her family as a seamstress. She attended Miami Public Schools, graduating from Miami High School with the Class of 1943. After graduating, she worked in the law offices of Charles W. Chesnut and Herschel Beauchamp in Miami. She also worked at First Baptist Church in Miami as nursery coordinator.
Above all, she loved her grandchildren dearly and was known as a faithful and loving wife to John. She loved to gather with church friends to play card games. Pitch, UNO, Skip Bo, were their favorites. You could always count on a fresh pie or cake when you visited in her home. She lovingly cared for her beautiful yard and flowers until she was 89 years old.
Joanna and John D. Giles were married in 1947 in Columbus, Kansas. They were married until his passing on January 1st, 2009.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 1/2 years, John D. Giles; her mother, Mrs. Nannie Clark; a son, Donald Eugene Giles; five siblings, Harold Clark, Opal Clark Selby, Helen Clark Wilson, Hazel Clark Fain, and Billie Marie Clark Rutherford.
She leaves behind two daughters, Nancy Jane Weeden and husband Dural, and Sharon Giles Westphal and husband Jim, all of Miami; grandchildren, Misti Dawn Giles Ramsey and husband Bob of Odessa, MO, Steven Giles and wife Stephany of Bucksport, ME, Jamie Chenoweth and husband Todd of Welch, Jaki Blevins of Miami, Chris and Nancy Westphal of Dallas, Matthew Westphal of Rogers, AR; greatgrandchildren, Joe, Alexander, Emma, Camryn, Trevor, Gabriella, Justin, Lane, Elizabeth Jane, Doug, Christy, Kaiden, Zachary, Branden, Sophia, and Henry; several great-great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29th, 2021, in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Miami. Pastor Steve Rutherford will officiate. A visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m., prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in the Peoria Indian Cemetery.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Joseph Siegers, Alexander Westphal and Trevor Ramsey; nephews, Gary Clark, Tim Rutherford, Bobby Fain, and Justin Mount.
Services are entrusted to the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch, where Joanna can be viewed Thursday afternoon until the service day.
