Meeting Jim Thomas was one of the great honors of my life.
Today is a sad day. I attended the funeral of what is probably my last mentor. Forty-five years ago I was working in a little grocery store one block north of Jim Thomas Funeral Home, in walked Mr. Jim and asked me to come work for him. Susan and I had only been married a short time I was not sure what I want to make my life job so I took him up on his offer. Jim told me that I would be doing a little bit of everything and if I couldn't handle some of work to let him know, thirty plus years later I left the funeral business behind and retired. One thing I could always do, when I had a problem, I could talk to him. Jim was more than my boss he was my friend. Somewhere, during those years of OFDA conventions, Jim became known as the Big Daddy. Rest easy Big Daddy I will miss you. We had a lot of fun and now may you be carried to the Great Creator on the wings of eagles.
Donna and I are unable to attend the services, however, we send our love and sympathy to all of the Thomas Funeral Home Family. I shall always remember as I would enter the office, Jim would ask every time, "Are you still working on the house?" He truly will be missed, but his legacy for his family, the Business and our Community has been given into the hands of the best. May our Heavenly Father through Christ Jesus bring comfort, peace and assurance for each one.
Growing up in Welch Jim was one of the first people we knew he was always so kind I have so many memories from him I will cherish them all he was truly a great man he will be missed dearly!
My sincere condolences to the Thomas family.
We are going to miss our conversations (and they were FUN ones) with Jim! He was one of a kind and as Larry says someone should write a book of his stories! Love, hugs, and prayers to you all!
Our sincere condolences to the Thomas family.
