Jewell D. Gladden's Obituary
Heaven’s Gates were open wide when longtime Miami resident Mrs. Jewell Gladden entered in on that Tuesday afternoon July 13, 2010 in Miami. Jewell was born November 11, 1923 in Marshalltown, Iowa to her parents Sybil and Amos Stuart. Jewell was 86 at her passing.
On August 10, 1946 Mr. Marion Gladden took Miss Jewell Stuart as his bride in Columbus, Kansas. He and Jewell have resided in Miami ever since raising their 3 children. Jewell loved children and was a wonderful wife and mother. Many children in the Miami Public School system were fortunate to have Miss Jewell as their kindergarten teacher’s aid. She worked at the Kindergarten Center for over 25 years enjoying every minute. Jewell was also a longtime and faithful member of Miami First Baptist Church. She served in the Sunday School department for over 50 years. Jewell was also involved with the Girls Auxiliary and WMU.
Although Jewell is no longer with us, her memory and legacy will be kept alive through the family and friends she leaves behind which include:
Her husband of 64 years: Marion Gladden of the home, 3 Daughters: Marilyn and husband Garry Ball of Atlanta, Georgia, Carolyn Gladden of Hutchinson, Kansas and Becky and husband Jerry Abell of Miami, Oklahoma, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Jewell is preceded in death by her parents, 1 Brother: Wayne Stuart, 2 Sisters: Arlene Hawkins and Catherine Hawkins, 1 granddaughter: Jamie Lee.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday July 16, 2010 at First Baptist Church Chapel with Pastor Rick Longcrier officiating. Interment will follow at GAR Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at Cooper Althouse Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Gideon’s International or First Baptist Church of Miami.
