Art Garcia Jr
I met Jeff in 2000 while I was doing my internship at CRASH (Community Resource And Self Help) where he was my supervisor. I was there to get experience and log in the required hours to complete my graduate degree from SDSU in the field of Rehabilitation Counseling with an emphasis on working with athletes in the areas alcohol/drug abuse, domestic violence, post-career training and head trauma/PTSD. Jeff and I quickly became friends and he took me under his wing and gave me the experience I needed to finish my degree.
Jeff's advice, knowledge and willingness to teach me had a direct impact on me being named 'Volunteer of the Year' in 2000. I have the plaque proudly hanging in my living room.
Jeff and I kept in touch via Facebook after he moved to Oklahoma and I recently sent him a holiday message a few weeks back not knowing he had passed away.
I was at a local store a week ago when his old roommate recognized me and told me a funny story about Jeff inviting me over to watch football and he would make his chili bean recipe... long story short, he forgot to plug it in so we had to wait about 4-5 hours to eat.
When I asked how Jeff was doing he told me the sad news.
RIP my friend -- I will always remember the great times we had. God Bless.
