Janice Geneieve Walker's Obituary
Janice Geneieve Walker was born to Pauline Robertson Whisamore on March 16, 1940 in Pryor, OK. She was raised by her grandparents, Pop and Mam Robertson, from age 4 to age 16 at which time she moved to Welch to live with her step-father and mother. She was then adopted by her step father.
She attended school at Mose Ridge Public School through 8th grade, Jay Public Shools her 9th and 10 grade years, and Welch Public Schools for 11th and 12th grade years where she graduated. She then attended night classes at NEO A&M.
On October 13th, 1967, she was married to Maynard Leroy Walker. On August 17, 1974, the joy of their lives, Shannon Lee Walker, was born. Shannon would later marry the former Susan Dunbar.
She began her working career at a Munsingwear factory. She then worked from 1961-1968 for Craig County Court Clerk John Rohmiller as First Deputy, and from 1968-1974 she worked for Bill's Coal Company as secretary doing payroll, and accounts receivable and payable. She then returned to the family ranch where she worked alongside Maynard in the day-to-day operations. After Maynard's passing, the ranch continued with the help of their son, Shannon, and his wife Susan, grandchildren Brody and Josie, Brad and Gary Ingram, and Matt Wilson. She was a longtime, active member, of the Welch Baptist Church
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Maynard; and a nephew, Paul Wayne Farris.
She is survived by her son, Shannon Walker and wife Susan of Welch; two grandchildren, Brody and Josie Walker; three loving sisters, Charlotte Vail and husband Steve of Welch, Peggy Stutsman of Welch, and Paula Lemons and husband Gary of Walters, OK; nephews, Jake Lemons and wife Sarah, Chris Lemons and wife Jolanda, and Eric Lemons and wife Kaitlin; nieces, Tina Windle and husband Tim, Dawn Susan Lewis and husband Robert, and Marti Mitchell and husband Jesse; seven great nieces; and seven great nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June the 4th, 2024, at the Welch Baptist Church. Pastor John Foley will officiate. She will be laid to rest in the Williams Timberhill Cemetery next to her husband.
