Janice Ann Layton's Obituary
Janice Ann Layton, a lifelong resident of rural Welch, OK, passed away early Monday morning, April the 8th, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was 86 years old.
She was born September the 17th, 1937, in rural Welch to Floyd E. Neill and Nina B. (Speers) Neill. She attended Hudson school thru the 8th grade. She then attended Welch Public Schools. In 1953, she married W.J. Layton at the courthouse in Bartlesville, OK. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage prior to W.J.'s passing on September 30th, 2016.
She worked several years at the Welch Hospital as a Nurse Aide and at Carter's Store in Vinita. She also was an active part of her and W.J.'s farming and ranching operation west of Welch. She loved cooking, being a 4-H leader, and fundraising for the North Craig County Booster Club. She was a member of Sunshine Bible Church, west of Welch.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; a stillborn son, Jackie Leon Layton; a daughter, Lacresia Layton; twin grandchildren, Layton True and Lakin Marie McClain; and a great great grandson, Jaymes Eugene Hollister.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Hollister and husband Kyle of Nowata, OK, two sons, Larry and wife Cindy and Gary and wife Sandy, all of Welch; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10th, at the Thomas and Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11th, also at the Funeral Home. Pastors Bob Whitchurch and Dallas Martin will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to W.J. at the Welch Cemetery. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Rowdy and Dustin Layton, Jeff Stoelzing, Jayce Hollister, Kyle Eller, Kyle Gray, and Josh Sellers. Honorary casket bearers will be Bryant Vail, Billy Bailey, and V.O. Morgan.
