Janice Elaine Johnson's Obituary
Janice Elaine Johnson, of Afton, Okla., passed away Friday evening, January 15, 2021, at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, MO. She was 74 years old.
She was born August 19, 1946 in Sherman, Texas to Thurman Beck and Ethel (Tygart) Beck. In September of 1964, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Johnson.
Janice was a hardworking woman. She worked several years in packing for Simmons Foods. She previously worked in the dairy business, at the garment factories in both Chetopa and Oswego, as well as for Huntsman Campers in Chetopa. When she had spare time, she loved to fish and work in her gardens. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chetopa.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Sharon Johnson; and two brothers, Timothy and Wayne Beck.
She is survived by three children, Linda Schertz and husband Steve of Bluejacket, Melissa Gilman of Afton, and Christopher Johnson of Chetopa; a brother, Daniel Beck of Columbus, KS; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family burial will be held in the Oakhill Cemetery in Chetopa. KS, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. A service for family and friends will be held at a future time.
