Janice Faye Gibson's Obituary
Janice Faye Gibson, 82, a longtime Afton resident went to be with her Lord and Savior in her home on Monday, May 29, 2023, surrounded by her family. Janice was born in Enid, Oklahoma on March 28, 1941, to Clark and Ruth (Taggart) Wheeler. She graduated from Afton High School with the Class of 1959. On the day following her graduation she married Charles Gibson at Afton First Baptist Church. They had been Homecoming King and Queen in Charles Senior year in 1958. Janice was a homemaker who loved to work with her flower gardens, she loved peonies and day lilies. She did work at Harps as a bookkeeper for many years and enjoyed working for several years at Afton Public Schools. She and Charles were members of Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Afton. Janice loved reading and studying her flowers. The family joked that she was a loyal QVC customer. Above all she loved her family and her church in which she was very active.
Mrs. Gibson was preceded in passing by her parents Clark and Ruth Wheeler, and a sister Gail Baldridge and her husband Bob.
Those left to share Janice’s memory are her husband of sixty-four years, Charles Gibson of the home, her sons Allen Gibson, Dwayne Gibson and his wife Jana, Darren Gibson and his wife Carla, Brian Gibson and his wife Kathy, her grandchildren are Micah Wade Gibson, Mica D. Gibson, Colby Gibson, Kimberly Gibson, Cole Gibson and Amber Gibson along with her great grandchildren Elijah Gibson, Indie Carter and Marlow Carter. Janice often joked that she might disown her sons, but never her daughters-in-law.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Afton.
There will be a Celebration of Life 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Trinity Southern Baptist Church with Reverend David Holland officiating. There will be a private interment at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Miami. Services have been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Afton.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Janice's name to Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Afton.
