James Silas Phillips' Obituary
James Silas Phillips, 67, of Miami, OK, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, after an illness. He was born January 5, 1945 in Houston, TX to Silas A. Phillips and Genevieve (Dobkins) Phillips. He was a graduate of Welch High School, Class of 1963. He attended NEO A&M College in Miami, OK for 2 years. He graduated from O.S.U. in Stillwater in 1966, receiving a degree in Philosophy. James proudly served his country with the United States Army beginning in 1966. He served 3 tours during the Vietnam Conflict receiving various honors including, 3 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star, Silver Star (Paratrooper Medal - Professional), and Jump Medal (Combat Infantry Badge). He retired in 1986, after 20 years of service, as high tech military security. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, of Vinita, and the D.A.V. He was a former member of the Lions Club. James is survived by 1 son, Silas Paul Phillips, of Miami, OK; 1 uncle, C.D. McKeon, of Bartlesville, OK; other loving relatives, and a host of friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, Welch, OK. Rev. Robert Vanhouse will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Services are under the direction of Jim Thomas, Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, OK.
