Irene Morton's Obituary
Elizabeth Irene Morton, 88, of Welch, OK, passed away at her home Monday evening, June 26, 2017, after an illness. She was born west of Welch on March 28, 1929 to Fred Cottongin and Ola (McKinney) Cottongin. She was a graduate of Welch High School. She loved to travel, and for many years, she lived in Idaho, California, and West Virginia, before settling in Welch. She worked as a waitress and in sewing factories. While in West Virginia, she began working for H&R Block. After moving to Welch, she worked for H&R Block in Miami until she retired. She loved sports and watching her family play basketball, baseball, and softball. She especially loved watching her great-great granddaughters play softball in the Miami League. She loved embroidery and was quite skilled in art. She was the heart of her family and she loved to spend time with them, especially the grandkids, who call her the best grandmother ever. She was married to Keith Nathaniel Morton. He passed away June 17, 1990. She is also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Keithette Morton-Bushers, one granddaughter, Jennifer Bushers; and one sister, Edith Fox. Family who are mourning Irene's loss include; two daughters, Kenni Morton of the home, and Michelle Blaine of Miami; two sisters, Colleen Polson of Welch, and Rose Mary Woolard of Miami; four grandchildren, Micah Vanover, Donald Bushers, Trey Davis, and Dakota Davis; three great grandchildren, Jessica Bushers, Mykaela Epperson, and Maddison Vanover; seven great great grandchildren, Justice and Trinity Bushers, Braylee Beth Epperson, Tucker Davis, Tanner Davis, Luke Davis, and Henry Keith Davis; along with several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Welch. Friends may greet the family beginning at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service. Casket bearers will be Brian Mitchell, Kevin Morton, Gary Polson, Mynatt Morton, Dakota Davis, and Trey Davis. Honorary casket bearers will be David Mitchell, Kenneth Mitchell, Ray Vanover, Tommy Woolard, and Dennis Frans. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Walker Cemetery, west of Welch.
