Irene Bruce's Obituary
Donna Irene Bruce, 77, a longtime resident of rural Welch, Okla., passed away Monday morning, March 23, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri after a short illness. Irene was born July 31, 1937 in Kiowa, Okla. to John L. and Gene (Shue) Davis. She was a homemaker, but spent many summers over the years helping with the family harvest, driving a grain truck or whatever was needed of her. She was a graduate of Chetopa High School. Irene loved to garden, tend to her flowers, and settle in with a good book. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a longtime member of the Welch Baptist Church. On September 4, 1955, Irene married Archie Bruce. They made their home northwest of Welch where they raised their children. Archie preceded her in death on May 23, 2011. Irene was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, David Wayne Bruce and Ira Dale Bruce, and one brother, John Davis. She is survived by one daughter, Donna Lundy and husband Chris of Afton, Okla.; two sons, Stephen Bruce and wife Teresa of rural Welch, and Darrell Bruce and wife Deann of rural Welch; one sister, Shirley Turner of Columbus, Kansas; 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, along with a host of friends. A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Welch Baptist Church. Services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Welch Baptist Church. Pastor Bob Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery east of Chetopa, Kansas.
