Herman Jinks' Obituary
Herman Buford Jinks, of Welch, OK, 85, passed away April 17, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 31, 1927 in Rural Welch, OK to Ernest and Ladena (Bowman) Jinks. He attended Edna, Kansas and Welch Schools. He proudly served his country with the United States Army, receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He was honorably discharged on December 19, 1946. On April 16, 1949, he married Marietta York in Edna, KS. The couple made their home West of Welch. Herman loved the outdoors and enjoyed being in his yard, gardening, and cows. He was known for being a "jack of all trades". He was an active member of the Welch Baptist Church since 1965, serving as a Deacon since 1970, Treasurer for 26 years, and the maintenance committee. He was also a member of the VFW of Welch. Herman was preceded in death by his parents; and 1 sister, Audrey Henry. He was survived by his wife, Merietta, of 64 years; 3 daughters, Deborah Gamble and her husband Herb, of Welch, Sandra Heiney and her husband Ralph of Guymon, and Jana Bennett and her husband Chuck of Bartlesville; 6 grandchildren, Carrie and Justin Miller of Miami, Russell and Amy Gamble of Broken Arrow, Melinda and Dallas McGlasson of Guymon, Ryan and Lagenna Bennett of Springhill, KS, Julie and Brandon Jones of Oklahoma City, and Christy Bennett of Wichita; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Ray Jinks and his wife, Ruth, Eugene Jinks and his wife Lois all of Vinita, Franklin Jinks and his wife Wannah of Grove; 1 sister, Maxine Shope and her husband James of Neosho; and a host of friends. There will be a visitation for family and friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Welch Baptist Church. Director of Missions and son-in-law, Ralph Heiney and Pastor Casey Whiteis will officiate. Interment at Walker Cemetery, West of Welch, OK. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Russell Gamble, Ryan Bennett, Dallas McGlasson, Brandon Jones, Justin Miller, and great-grandson, Seth Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Bruce, Johnnie Yost, Bill Windle, and Ken Erstad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Welch Baptist Church and Integris Hospice.
