Helen Rubin's Obituary
Helen Rubin, age 101 of Novi, Michigan passed away April 27, 2017. She was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on March 24, 1916 and grew up in Dexter, Michigan. She met her husband Floyd Rubin of Fairland, Oklahoma while he was in classes at U of M for the US Marines during WWII. They married in 1944 in North Carolina and lived in San Diego before Floyd shipped out to the Pacific in 1945. They spent their life in the Detroit area until their retirement and moved to Cross Village in Northern Michigan in 1980. Helen was an administrator at S.S. Kresge and then worked in Detroit Public Schools until her retirement. Helen loved to garden, watch the birds, travel and lavish attention on her rescue pets and neighborhood animals. Helen was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by her daughter Kay Carlson (Tom) of Walled Lake, Michigan, and half sister, Earlyne Figg of Chelsea, Michigan. Proud grandmother of Eric Carlson (Shari) of South Lyon, Michigan, and granddaughter Courtney Stewart (Jeff) of Farmington Hills, Michigan. Loving great grandma of Madeline and Elena Carlson, and Liam and Ryan Stewart.
Helen will be laid to rest at a graveside service in Fairland, Oklahoma beside her husband on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Thank you to Novi Lakes Health Campus and Heart to Heart Hospice for the wonderful, loving care of Helen. Memorial Contributions may be made to a hospice, animal rescue, or charity of your choice.
