Helen Beatrice Ewers' Obituary
Helen Beatrice Ewers, 95, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Welch, passed away Monday evening, December 7, 2020, at Bellevue Health and Rehab in Oklahoma City. She had spent the majority of her life in Welch, OK until health issues made it necessary for her to move closer to her daughters in Oklahoma City.
She was born March 31, 1925 in Ketchum, OK to Joseph and Minnie (Williams) Nofflet. After Helen and her sister, Bobbie, graduated from high school, they both worked to earn money to go to college. Helen eventually obtained her Master's Degree in Library Science, while teaching English classes at Welch High School. She continued to work there until her retirement in the 1980's.
When Helen moved to Welch in 1947, she met the Postmaster, Joe Ewers, who began to deliver her mail to her personally. They married in 1948 and had two daughters.
Helen was a member of the Welch Baptist Church and Craig County Retired Teachers. She had varied interests, including belonging to the Redbud Garden Club, the local book club, and she volunteered at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Joe in 2006.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Madewell of Oklahoma City, and Gina Hohenberger and husband Gary of Piedmont, OK; her sister, Juanita (Bobbie) Nofflet of Orlando, FL; 6 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Welch Baptist Church. Pastor Bob Whitchurch will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Casket bearers will be Travis Hohenberger, Lexi McNair, Garrett McNair, Keely Hohenberger, Shannon Walker, and Jeane Burgess.
