Glenn Albert Reding's Obituary
Glenn Albert Reding, (81), of Miami, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 in Joplin, Missouri. Glenn was born on December 25th in 1941 to Albert and Mary (Brack) Reding at his home in Geary, Oklahoma. Glenn grew up on a dairy farm in Geary. Until he left for college, he had never ventured further than 60 miles from home because he always had to be back to the farm to milk cows. Glenn graduated from Geary High School in 1960. He excelled in all sports and was a State Champion wrestler. He earned a full-ride scholarship to wrestle at Oklahoma State University where he went on to be an All Big 8 wrestler. While at OSU, he met a city girl, Sue Worrell, who became his wife of 59 years. Glenn took his first teaching and coaching job at Blackwell, Oklahoma. He came to Miami High School in 1967 where he coached football and wrestling. He started the Miami Takedown Club for youth and was a beloved coach and role model to several generations. He attained a Master’s Degree from Central Missouri State University and continued his career at Miami until retirement in 1988. Upon retirement, Glenn and Sue were very active at First Baptist Miami. They both could be found all over town and spent many hours volunteering at the Historic Coleman Theater. Glenn will be remembered for his informative tours at the Coleman. He also enjoyed genealogy, camping, fishing, watching football and wrestling.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Mary Reding.
He is survived by his wife Sue of the home, his children Shelly Wilson (Curtis) of Broken Arrow, Scott Reding of Broken Arrow and Shannon Klaus (Greg) of Tulsa, a brother Pete Reding of Ardmore, his grandchildren Cody Wilson (Laurie) of Jenks, Roman Wilson (Carmina) of Singapore, Micah Wilson (Sydney) of Tulsa, Ian and Neil Klaus both of Tulsa along with his great grandchildren Teddy and Audrey Wilson of Jenks, also nephew Jason Reding of Ardmore and niece Gina Littlefield of Lantana, Texas.
His children, Shelly, Scott and Shannon adored him! Glenn loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He was always there for them and taught them the importance of enjoying life and family.
Glenn was very proud of his grandchildren. He could always be found in the stands cheering them on at their football games. He was especially happy when one of the grandsons finally starting wrestling! It thrilled him that Ian and Neil are following in his footsteps by attending OSU. The grandsons have wonderful memories of their Papa. They had many fun trips to Branson and the lake. He loved to buy them gifts, was always slipping them spending money and told the best jokes and stories.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 21 from 4-6 PM at First Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall. Services have been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Friends of the Coleman at 103 North Main Street, Miami, OK 74354.
Coach Reding was loved so dearly and brought so much happiness to the many lives he touched. He was kind, caring and understanding towards all people. Glenn loved giving to others. He positively impacted the Miami community, and he will truly be missed.
