Gerald L. Grimes' Obituary
Gerald L. Grimes, a long-time Afton area farmer and rancher, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026. He was ninety years old. Mr. Grimes was born on May 25, 1935, two miles south of Afton, to Everett and Madge (Johnson) Grimes. At age two, the family moved two miles west of Afton. He attended Afton Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1953. In 1955, he graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College with a degree in agriculture. In 1957, Mr. Grimes was drafted into the United States Army. He served two years on active duty and four years after in the Army Reserves. While serving his country, he earned the rank of Sergeant. On February 12, 1960, he married the love of his life, Mary Morgan. Together, they would spend many wonderful years. Mr. Grimes worked as a farmer and rancher his whole life. He also worked for The Crane Company and BF Goodrich until the plant closed. Preceding Mr. Grimes in passing are his parents, Everett and Madge Grimes and his sister Carol Abbott.
Those left to share the memory of Mr. Grimes include his wife of sixty-five years, Mary Grimes, children, Steve Grimes and his wife, Kim of Afton, and Jeff Grimes and his wife, Margo of Afton. His grandchildren include Jadi Munson, Jamie Grimes, Jennifer Dillinger, Kyle Grimes, and Jacy Grimes, along with fourteen great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service for Gerald at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Afton with Reverend Michael Knight officiating. Interment is under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Afton, Oklahoma.
