George Emmet Hood's Obituary
George Emmet Hood, a well-known and lifelong resident of Welch, OK, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016 at his home, after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was 76 years old. George was born February 7, 1940 in Welch, OK to Cecil Hood and Jane (Wilson) Hood. He was a high school graduate. On February 12, 1999, George married Judy Sanders. She survives of the home. George loved farming. Spending countless hours in the hay fields was his way of life. He could outwork anyone half his age. He also loved anything to do with horses. In the 1970's, George showed Appaloosa horses, winning the National Champion Halter Horse Competition. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; 2 daughters, Cheryl Kreder and husband Fred of Ochelata, OK, and Rhonda Davenport and husband Rowdy of Bluejacket, OK; 2 sons, Barry Armstrong and wife Christina of Welch, and Allen Armstrong and wife Robin, also of Welch; one sister, Norma Greer of Welch; 5 grandsons, Kyler Kreder, Colton Armstrong, Christopher, Casey, and Doug Rexwinkle; 4 granddaughters , Julia, Abbey, and Lydia Armstrong, and Shelby Miller; 4 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Welch Civic Center. A visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pastor Bob Wilson will officiate. Casket bearers will be Justin Miller, Jared Miller, Barry Armstrong, Allen Armstrong, Avery Hoke, and Larry Fonseca. He will be laid to rest in the Walker Cemetery, northwest of Welch. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please make a donation in memory of George to Bucks for Books, c/o Welch Public Schools, P.O. Box 189 Welch, OK 74369.
