Garry Leon McClendon's Obituary
Garry Leon McClendon, 76, of Miami passed away at Integris Miami Hospital on Sunday, February 12, 2017. He was born on January 1, 1941 in Carthage, Missouri to Wiley and Opal (Lewis) McClendon. He married his love of fifty-four years Ella McGehee on June 29, 1962. He worked at Lazy Boy in Neosho Missouri for thirty years and then at Umicore in Quapaw. He raised his family in Seneca, Missouri, and then he and Ella moved to Miami about eleven years ago. Garry also pastored Church of God “Holiness” in Wyoming, Missouri and Oklahoma. He enjoyed farming, horseback riding and working in the yard, was pretty much an outdoor person. Mr. McClendon was preceded in passing by his parents Wiley and Opal McClendon, and a brother Leonard Wayne McClendon.
Survivors include his wife Ella McClendon of the home, a daughter Linda June Thurman of Neosho, Missouri, Garry Wiley McClendon of Fayetteville, North Carolina, five grandchildren Jonathan Reed, Caroline Grimes, Mikka Thurman, Emily McClendon and Charli Thurman, his great grandchildren Trevor Reed, Laykin Reed Ryker Kaneer and Haeven Thurman along with his brothers Phillip McClendon and his wife Jackie and Johny McClendon and his wife Debbie.
Visitation is Tuesday from 6-7PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami.
Services are at Church of God Holiness 10AM Wednesday with Pastor Cynthia McClendon and Pastor Phillip McClendon officiating. Interment will follow at the Kenney Cemetery north of Neosho, Missouri under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
